Berkshire Skills Unit

This was the original funding used to establish the Professional Development Network. This funding was to run from April 04 – December 06. Due to its great success and due to ESF under spend the project was given extra funding to ensure that the services could continue across Berkshire.

The overview of the project are as follows: Berkshire Skills Unit, a partnership that aimed to embrace all the active interests in Basic Skills delivery in the county, was responsible for the training of new tutors and volunteers and the professional updating of experienced staff to meet the needs of all providers and hence enable Skills for Life targets to be achieved., deliver non accredited CPD activities to support awareness raising and professional development of SfL across the post compulsory sector.

This project provided management, support and workplace mentoring that added value to the training and qualifications already being delivered by the BSU. It  promoted  Skils for Life teaching as a valuable and worthwhile career move both for new workers and for those considering embedding this work into other teaching activity. The project aimed to  act as a forum and a focus for action research and the sharing of good practice.
